I received an invite recently for Pownce, the new startup from the makers of Digg. Pownce is yet another internet presence site following in the steps of sites like Jaiku and Twitter. It seems the big change from other presence sites is the ability to share files with other users. Pownce, much like my favorite social networking site Virb, is very pretty and easy to manipulate. Nevertheless, so far I don’t see myself using Pownce all that much. I am already on Jaiku, which allows me to blend all of my presence feeds into one big page of feeds. That is significantly more important for me because Jaiku allows me to show my profile to someone who is interested in finding more about what I am interested in. All of my feeds show up including this blog, my Netflix queue, Library Thing catalog, del.icio.us links. etc. I can also do the things that took me from to Jaiku like posting my status or a message to friends. I use that to announce my plans for the day each morning, which requires me to ask myself what exactly I am going to do on a given day. Sharing files is nice, but if that is the only variation Pownce offers I think I will stick with Jaiku.
